Akrotiri Holidays
Explore Akrotiri
Believed by some to be part of the Lost Continent of Atlantis, Akrotiri, on the south coast of Santorini, is famous for its Bronze Age, beautifully preserved town, replete with colourful frescoes and three storey houses, which have survived in the ash of a volcanic explosion that occurred more than 3500 years ago. No holiday to Akrotiri should be complete without paying a visit to this hugely cultured and quite extensive Minoan settlement which covered a far greater area than present day, modern Akrotiri. However, the ancient ruins do have a chequered history of being open, and then closed, to the public, owing to a dubious safety record. Akrotiri is also home to the Red Beach and White Beach which are accessible by traditional Greek fishing boat.
