Vulcano Island Holidays
Explore Vulcano Island
The most southerly of the islands, Vulcano is best known for its mud baths, hot springs and lovely volcanic sand beaches. The still smoking crater of Vulcano's peak, Fossa di Vulcano, or Gran Cratere (large crater), towers over the north eastern coast and the island boasts active thermal springs where visitors can enjoy a therapeutic and revitalising soak in the hot springs and a wallow in the therapeutic mud baths known as fanghi.
Just along from the baths is one of the island's best beaches, Le Spiaggia Sabbia Nera with black volcanic sand, and dark black rocks rising from the calm sea. Take an early morning hike up to the 391m high crater of Fossa di Vulcano, visit the small villages of Gelso and Piano, or join a boat trip along the coast taking in Grotta del Cavallo, a sea cave famed for its light effects and Piscina di Venere, a natural swimming pool.
