Inspired by the rural, unassuming farmhouses of Gallura, Cascioni Eco Retreat strikes a delightful balance between traditional architecture and elegantly modern décor. Set amidst fragrant plants, olive and fruit trees, in many hectares of parkland, it harvests and bottles its own extra virgin olive oil each October.

Each of the 15 immaculate suites features a splendidly private garden, refreshing outdoor plunge pool, heated during cooler months, and views of mountains, open country, or the sea. Prestige rooms offer slightly more space. Home-grown and homemade is the ethos here, which applies to the menu of restaurant Ulia. The spa features a heated pool and the scents of the Mediterranean, and the estate's organic products olive oil, honey, myrtle and lavender are used in many of the treatments.

The dappled shade of trees falls across the sinuous and peaceful main swimming pool. There's a fully-equipped gym, food and wine workshops, sailing opportunities and plenty of outdoor activities.
