Paradise beach, Soufriere

Explore Soufriere

Found on the western coast of St Lucia, Soufriere is a vibrant region surrounded by verdant volcanic rock formations known as The Pitons a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A locality of waterfalls, rainforest, sandy beaches and geothermal activity offering abundant hot springs, St Lucia's former capital of Soufriere blends outstanding nature with Caribbean charm.

Soufriere town is found in a picturesque bay, is characterised by a spirited mixture of grand old colonial buildings, colourful storefronts and wonderful restaurants serving seasonal food and a variety of Caribbean and European cuisine.

As well as the enchantment of Petit Piton and Gros Piton which collectively comprise The Pitons the Soufriere coastline is known for its pristine sandy beaches, of which Anse Chastanet Beach and Jalousie Beach are the most popular. With coral found in underwater cliffs at Coral Garden, Soufriere's coastline is especially popular with snorkellers and divers.

The illustrious geography of Soufriere means there are numerous natural wonders to explore in this region. The Sulphur Springs are known as the 'world's only drive-in volcano', as it's possible to drive to the edge of the hot springs of this geothermically active area. It's also a place to enjoy the mud baths, which are said to have famed healing properties.

The Diamond Botanical Gardens on the impressive Soufriere Estate boasts a waterfall as well as a riot of ornamental plants, while several rainforest trails and hiking trails across Soufriere including the Tet Paul Nature Trail offer unrivalled views of St Lucia.

Elsewhere in Soufriere, cocoa plantations and former sugar estates are fascinating places to explore. Horse riding, rum tasting and boat trips to private beaches are all popular things to do. With stunning natural beauty and plenty of local discoveries to be made, Soufriere has all the right ingredients for holidays full of charm, amazing scenery and life's luxuries.
