Mahon Holidays
Explore Mahon
There's an interesting mix of architectural styles in Mahon, Menorca's capital. A Baroque church here and a gothic Cathedral there, but much of the streetscape owes its appearance to 18th century England, as Georgian-style town houses with sash and bow windows predominate. It's perhaps not surprising as the British were present for nearly 100 years from 1713.
The city sits on the southern shores of a sea channel almost 5km long, making it one of the longest natural harbours in the world. There is plenty of choice when it comes to restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs, but, for beaches, you'll need to be prepared to travel outside of the city. Nearby, 10 minutes distant by car, Mesquida and Es Grau offer sand and sand-dunes and there's also the blue flag beach at Punta Prima, to the south.
