Luxury Chamarel Holidays
Explore Chamarel
Located in the Black River Gorge, Chamarel is primarily known for its stunning scenery and natural attractions. The Seven Coloured Earths is a geological formation which covers a relatively small area of the Chamarel plain. The sand dunes here appear rippled with seven distinct colours - red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. The sands spontaneously settle in different layers and the rain carves beautiful patterns into the sand and surrounding hillside.
At a height of approximately 100 metres, The Chamarel Falls is the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius. Fed by the waters of three distinct streams pouring into the Saint Denis River, it has a hugely powerful rush with a peak flow rate in excess of forty thousand cubic metres of water per minute. Overhanging the ledge of a basalt cliff, the Chamarel Waterfall thundres into an oval pool before flowing six kilometres down a tropical-forest-fringed canyon to Baie du Cap. The surrounding area is also known for its locally grown coffee and famous Rum distillery.
