Minervino di Lecce Holidays
Explore Minervino di Lecce
This tiny, scenic town, just short of 30 miles from Lecce and not at all far from Otranto, is certainly off the beaten track. It derives its name from the Roman goddess of music, poetry and wisdom, Minerva, and is something of a magical place, with a variety of worthwhile attractions. You can walk in the footsteps of Neolithic ancestors at Dolmen Li Scuzi. On the outskirts of the town and towards Uggiano La Chiesa you'll discover an impressive collection of Bronze Age megalithic stones standing in solitude amongst olive trees and wild asparagus.
Minervino di Lecce's main church dates as far back as the middles of the 16th century and is one of the most noteworthy Renaissance churches in the Salento; carved portals, richly decorated and wide rose window, large bronze bell and ornate, local stone apse all add to the appeal. There is also a large statue of the Archangel, St Michael. Other places of worship in Church of Madonna delle Grazie and the Convent of St Anthony dating from 1624.
