Lefkimmi is Corfu's second largest town and is a joy to explore. Characterful narrow streets are lined with merchants' houses and tall Venetian style properties in various stages of repair, renewal and restoration.

Local cafes, bakeries, bars and tavernas complete a picture largely untouched by tourism, where neighbours sit outside their homes and swap stories over a glass or two of Ouzo. A large, ornate, Italianate church dominates the upper town there are several churches of interest here and a small river runs through the lower town, its banks lined with antiquated buildings and traditional tavernas.

Sit by the river enjoying a meal or a drink and watch the world go by, then follow the river to the sea and have a swim. The sea here is very shallow, warm, and sandy, perfect for children. The nearby salt flats are now a spectacular wildlife sanctuary where flamingos, egrets, and many migratory birds can be seen.
