Luxury Gros Islet Holidays

The northern tip of the island of St Lucia is home to Gros Islet, complete with the charming historic streets of an old fishing village, the modern hub of Rodney Bay, and miles of splendid coastline.

The old fishing village of Gros Islet itself is where many of St Lucia's more historical traditions continue to this day, with fishermen and rum distillers calling the locality 'home'. Neighbouring Rodney Bay is a modern community, with boutique shops, high-end restaurants and waterside bars. These two popular centres give visitors a perfect blend of picturesque history and modern-day luxuries.

One of the most beloved beaches in the Gros Islet region is Reduit Beach. At more than a mile long and with golden sand, this is a place to relax, try a range of water sports and indulge in fresh seafood and cocktails served in the beach cafés. It's also possible to charter yachts from the nearby marina. Pigeon Island Beach further along the coastline is a low-key beach favoured by those who just want to relax and look out over the dazzling turquoise waters. Nearby is the remarkable Pigeon Island National Park, which is comprised of 44 acres of the Fort Rodney military ruins, beaches and walking trails. Accessible by a footpath from the mainland, this island nature reserve attracts keen hikers and snorkellers. It's sometimes possible to spot the neighbouring Caribbean island of Martinique from here too.

Elsewhere in Gros Islet is the St Lucia Golf Club, an 18-hole championship course that attracts avid golfers from far and wide. The church at St Joseph the Worker Parish gives some insight into the village's history, as the first priests to settle in St Lucia did so in Gros Islet in the mid 1700's, when the church was also built. Plantation Beach is also easily accessible from Gros Islet, best known for offering waters sports such as kitesurfing.
